“The Secret”
“The secret gives you anything you want: happiness, health, and wealth,” Bob Proctor.
“The secret is the answer to all that has been, all that is, and all that will ever be,” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
The gist of the secret can be boiled down to be explained in one law, the law of attraction - no, not love and romance - the law of the universe that works something like this:
Your mind generates thoughts, duh. Every thought has a unique and individual waves that is produced by your brain when you think about it; these brain waves are not limited to exist only in your mind. “Every thought of yours is a real thing - a force,” Prentice Mulford (1834-1891). When you produce these waves, the whole universe recognizes it. Just like gravity or any other law of nature, all of nature obeys and reacts to it, and ‘the secret’ is that if you produce the same frequency of brain waves for long enough and with enough intensity the objects in the universe that have the same qualities, that give off the same frequency, as your thoughts will be attracted into your life, whatever those things may be. “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions,” Albert Einstein.
For some reason unknown to man, gravity always exists where there is matter, negative magnetic fields attract positive and vise-versa, certain quarks make certain atoms, certain atoms make certain elements which make up the universe and brain waves attract the very thing being thought of. We don’t know how these laws of nature work, but they do. “What this power is I cannot say. All I know is that it exists,” Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922). Have you ever been thinking about a song really hard and it comes up on the radio, then it happens again and then again? This is ‘the secret.’ Have you ever been thinking about an old friend a whole lot you haven’t talked to for a long time and their name comes up in a conversation or it even goes far enough that they call you? This is ‘the secret.’ I guarantee that if you try little things like that, if you focus on something - and you might not even need to work all that much for it - it will come up in one form or another in your life. Just make sure you believe in the universe and in the secret, believe that it will follow the laws; doubt is a brainwave too. “Whether you think you can or you can’t, either way, you’re right,” Henry Ford.
Have you ever wondered where the genie and the lamp story came from? Well let’s just say you did. You find it in all sorts of cultures, and if you trace it back far enough, you will find that they all started with the universe being the genie, some sort of higher power then man. The men had infinite wishes and always the genie would say to the man, “Your wish is my command,” like we still have in the story. “As above, so below. As within, so without,” The Emerald Tablet (3000 B.C.). The whole universe is at our disposal; it will rearrange anything it needs in order to bring to you what you are working for.
“All that we are is a result of what we have thought,” Buddha. Don’t suppose, though, that you can merely sit there and wait for fortune or power to come to you. “You create your own universe as you go along,” Winston Churchill. The universe can only control that which you do not have influence over; everything you can make happen is in your hands and the universe will not affect it. When you constantly work towards something and focus on it, the universe will work to bring the same thing to you and you will meet in the middle. It is Faith and Works that you will need. You cannot have one without the other and still make this work. “Success comes from within, not from without,” Emerson.
And to make this all even more convenient and wonderful, there is a gauge that determines how well you are living the secret; it’s been a part of you all your life and you are well aware of it. It is your feelings - your emotions. They are the measuring rod that tells you which direction to take your life. This part also requires your action; you must act on your feelings and impulses - trust them. When you see something that makes you happy and your impulse is to pursue it, follow that. If you are going through life ignoring things that give you joy and not living like you want, you are going to be unhappy.
Let’s take a car as an example for originality and simplicity reasons - because more than likely most of us find happiness in deeper things than materials. You see a car in a sales lot and seeing it gives you a good feeling. You want it because it will make your life easier and a little better than without it. This is where the secret begins; you put that thought out and immediately the universe starts working for you. The more you think about it, the more you imagine you having it, the faster it is coming to you, whether you notice or not. Use the secret; go home and sit in a chair and imagine yourself driving that car and feel good about it; hit the gas pedal, shift through the gears, slam on the brakes, the more senses you employ the stronger the signal you give out; writing down what you want on a peice of paper is also a really good way to focus on something. Say you love working on computers, for another easy example, and you get the impulse to go to a local computer store you like… listen to it and act on it. Here you find an employee struggling to help someone with technical problems and, being into computers, you know how to fix the problem, so you do because you enjoy it. Say the manager oversees all of this happen, is impressed and offers you a job of a higher pay than your last, before long, you have that car you were only imagining having not long ago. Your impulses won’t always lead to opportunities like this, but very often they do so long as you follow your impulses and feelings. That is just one circumstance; it can work in so many different ways.
The thought may have crossed your mind that when you think bad thoughts often, such as getting hit by a car or something, that you are now doomed to this fate; that’s not the case though. First of all, again, this is a faith AND works deal. Second of all, the thoughts and impulses that give you bad feelings, that make you unhappy, are not projected with one thousandth of the power into the universe as are those thoughts that make you happy. That emotion of joy magnifies these signals a thousand fold.
Things opposite of what you were wishing for can come about through your unspecific thoughts though. In the book they use the example of debt, so that’s what I will do. If you are constantly thinking, “I want to be out of debt,” and you are imagining yourself being happy and free while associating those feelings with being out of debt, you will be putting the signal of debt out into the universe with a happy feeling. It, not being able to know what is really good or bad for you - only going off laws of signals, will bring you more debt. Mother Teresa is accredited to have said, “I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.” She knew the secret; she knew that if you rally for something that gives off the signal of war, it will come, and same with peace. I can’t find the reference, but I have heard it said that you empower that which you resist. This is true; what you focus on is the signal you give out.
If you have ever heard the story of Morris Goodman, ‘the miracle man’, you will recall that he used the secret. He was in a plane crash and broke practically every bone a person could brake and lost function of major orgins; he became paralized from this and most didn’t think he would last a week alive. He did though, and not only that, he gives motivational presentations as a normal, healthy person. How did he do it? You already know the answer. He focused on walking out of that hospital every day. He imagined being perfectly fine and healthy again and the universe obeyed its laws. Even the very cells in his body responded to his positive outlook and began to create what he was imagining. They rebuilt themselves the way they should be - not broken, and conformed to his way of thinking and he came out of there no longer paralized. Your on the internet, look the story up.”You have to see light at the end of the tunnel. You must be able to comprehend that you’ll walk again. You have to see yourself dancing. You have to see yourself on stage… You must see yourself healed. You have to picture it… If you can’t picture it, your physiology can’t create it. Even if it seems impossible right now, you have to see the impossible becoming possible.” Dr. John F. Demartini to a dancer that had been paralized from the neck down.
About every seven years, we each have a completely new body. Cells die and new ones replace them, some faster than others. There is no reason, therefore, to suffer an injury for longer than that. The only barrier that holds us back is our tendancy to think that we are stuck with this pain for as long as we have it, which will be forever if we think that. Our Cells listen to our minds and if we don’t believe that we can heal ourselves, or heal with medical help, than we will never heal. We have to see ourselves feeling good and comfortable, imagine no pain without using the word pain. We have to let go of our scars and injuries, even if we hold on in the back of our minds whatever we have will not go away.
Now, you may have wondered how you go about achiving your goals and dreams, but that’s not your job. All you need to do is basically focus on a wish and follow your impulses. You are not suppose to know what needs to be done, if that were the case, you wouldn’t need the help of a higher power at all. Bob Proctor said, “If you know what to do to reach your goal, it’s not a big enough goal.” and that is exactly right. Furthermore, Tom Venuto said, “Many people get scared… and ask only for what they think they can get, not what they really want. Its okay if this scares you a little. In fact, if your goal isnt scary and exciting at the same time, then youre not thinking big enough. Dont sell yourself short. Ask for what you really WANT. Ignore anyone who tells you to be realistic. Take that “lid” off your mind and DREAM!” That hits the point even better. The secret is the way to get anything we want; why would we settle with something easy to obtain? We need to dream big and act on our feelings. Let the universe bring to you the things that you will need to achive your goals.
It truly is amazing the power of the secret. You get whatever you want if you want it bad enough and are willing to work for it. You can also become the kind of person you want to be - or the kind of person you look up to. Just imagine yourself like you want to be and act that way, and pretty soon you will be that way.
